Sleep??
hi guys... just got my new iMac yesterday and loving it... weeeeeee
I just want to know...
1) how many watts is my computer using when it's on...
2) Does it consume the same amount of electricity when it's on sleep mode?
3) Should I just shut down the computer when not in use for a ' short' time?
Answers and comments will be highly appreciated... thanks in advance

1. Look at the manual. If it says, for example 380 watts, it means that is the maximum power it can use. The usage varies depending on what you do. If you're playing games, the videocard and CPU needs more power than when surfing the internet.
2. No because the components are idle.
3. There was already a thread about that. Some would yes no while others say no. In my case, no, I don't shut down.

@rom, if i'm doing a software update which usually lasts for more than 30 mins(depending on the speed and file size), i just leave it then my mac will go to sleep right, so that means the update gets suspended?
though i tried it once and upon awakening, the update seemed to continue.
OT also, while charging my iphone thru the mac, once it sleeps, the charge continues, am i right? tia

@macbro, mine usually completes the update before going to sleep. Your Mac must be really tired hehehe. Under preferences, did you put "put hard disk to sleep whenever possible"?
@rom, when my Mac is in sleep mode, will it dream? I just miss Pinoymac

@macbro the Mac does not sleep when it is doing Software Update or other important tasks. What it does is it probably turns off your display. It will go to sleep once the Update is over. HOWEVER, I do not recommend you doing this. If you need to leave, it is best to cancel the update.
The iPhone/iPod will continue charging if and only if you plugged it in BEFORE you put the Mac to sleep. Otherwise, the USB port will not be powered.
@Juice yes, it will dream. :P

When I first turned on my MacBook (that was June last year), the first thing it did after bootup and registration was to fetch several updates to Mac OS X totaling 300+Mb that went over an hour. The screen dimmed and then turned off later on but the update itself continued.
