REVIEW: Wireless Mighty Mouse

In my opinion the best mouse, wireless or not, out there.

The box it came in with was really neat, it's like it's telling me that inside it is something really dashing!

Inside the box were the manual, installation disc, two AA lithium energizer batteries, the limited one-year warranty, and of course the Wireless Mighty Mouse.

Upclose and personal with the mouse. Without the tail, I think it looks like a bar of a Johnson&Johnson soap, hehe

The bottom part of the WMM, with the bottom cover removed, revealing the 2 AA batteries in place.

Sliding the notch up and down turns the WMM on and off. The yellow green light lits up when it's turned on.

WMM's side profile.

WMM finally in action! Using it alongside my mac.

The Review

Raves on the WMM :
1. Easy setup . Just install the software using the disc included, restart the system, insert the 2 AA Batteries, slide the notch downwards, and voila! It's ready to go.

2. Laser-guided precision . I have used mice with trackball, the ones that are optical, and adding this laser stuff to work with the WMM is really nifty, it made WMM to work on almost any surface, i tried using t with a white bond paper, wood, a book with plastic cover, steel, cloth, glass, my leg (yeah it's crazy), and it worked with no hassle, no jumping/erratic pointers on the screen and all.

3. Battery Life . This actually is my primary concern before purchasing this gadget, that the battery life on this one, considering that it's using laser instead of the usual optical. Been using the WMM for 2 weeks now with an average of 8 hours of usage a day, and the battery still is in full capacity.

4. 1 or 2 Battery Option . This feature is really great, you can use your WMM with 1 or 2 AA batteries, and it works perfectly. Personally it still is the best to use 2 batts instead of using just one, first the battery life will be more efficient because the energy cosumption will be distributed, and second it remains lightweight, even with 2 batts loaded.

5. Ergonomically Perfect . The WMM fits perfectly with my hand, though I think this one's case to case basis.

6. No tail!

7. The scroll button . I think it's even better with the wireless version compared with the wired one. Seamless scrolling, scrolls even with the slightest contact with your finger.

8. Right-clicks . This thing bothered me before with the previous versions of Apple mice, because I'm used to having the right click function with the conventional mouse, and with the WMM you can assign this function.

9. Dashing! . Need I say more?

10. Contact Points . A total of four contact points on the WMM ((1) left button, (2) right button, (3) scroll button, (4) side buttons) that can be configured to do certain things, from assigning it to do right click functions, to launching specific applications, Expose, the Dashboard, etc.

Rants on the WMM :
1. The Price . Yeah, it is pricey, with it's price you can actually buy 7-8 normal optical mice, but I personally think it's so worth it.

2. The Right Button . I dont like having to lift my other finger just use the right button's function. I got used to it eventually, but still it would be better if I can place both my fingers on the mouse and still be able to use the right button, especially when it comes to playing games.

Over all, with its neat features and its aesthetically-great design, I consider the Wireless Mighty Mouse one of the best gadgets to grab to match with your macs.

I hope that this mini review helped you guys on deciding on which mouse to purchase

I must admit, I got turned off with the price. After all, I got my MM for free. Then again, I love my MM so I've been thinking about this and thank goodness someone wrote about it.

I've read somewhere that it had some trouble suddenly dying off and not coming back to life. Is this one of those early bacth problems only? Are there any other WMM users out there who have good or back feedback about this gadget?

@ chrismd
Glad to be of help! I can really recommend that you get one for your mac

@ ronanism
Actually I had to wait for like 7 weeks before I got a hold of my WMM, there was some sort of problem with the scroll button that caused the delay, it's possible that the Apple guys might have also corrected the dying-off-and-not-coming-back-to-life issue. Have never experienced any problems to this day.

I recommend that you use the WMM instead, I'm 100% satisfied with it. Compared to the Apple Mouse, I dont think you can assign certain functions such as opening context menus (right click function), opening certain applications, etc, though I'm not entirely sure with this one. Not to mention that the WMM/MM has a scroll button that the Apple Mouse has not.

Talking

I just got my WMM this week. It's great! Got it from Benedict. It does kinda look like a bar of soap, especially since it doesn't have a cord. My kid actually thought it was a soap bar when he first saw it next to my MBP.

Well, I can now say that my Wireless Mighty Mouse if working perfectly. My first one had the right-click problem. Apple Singapore replaced it without questions.

So if you have the same problem with your Wireless Mighty Mouse. Have it replaced ASAP.
