am crossposting this from our friendly neighbor, PhilMUG:
i like the improvements i see so far.
the wifi just got better i think. it now remembers my router's WEP and WPA settings so i don't have to key in the password each time i connect to the web. there's also that neat feature where you can have the WLAN scanning at the standby screen -- it is so convenient i was willing to have it always turned on even at the expense of battery life.
browsing is a lot quicker too. surfing through secure sites is not a problem by the way. i know the latest version of the E61 is capable of doing this but personally i think the E61i's browser response is much better. i also haven't experienced a single crash so far, when browsing and editing with Quickoffice at the same time. to test the phone's stability, i even tried launching 4 to 5 apps (web, quickword, quicksheet, adobe pdf and mobireader) simultaneously while running screenshot on the background, and i can say, the E61i didn't even flinch. very stable!
the camera (which is not even a reason why i got this phone) is ok. it can handle video too. the number of photos and length of video you can capture still depend on the size of the memory card. i have 512 MB installed and am still planning on getting that 1GB micro later this week.
the unit is thinner than the E61 and it also feels lighter than the previous model. i like the navipad that replaced the joystick although i must admit i still have to get used to it. anyway, i only played with it for the past 3 days and i still find my thumb doing joystick gestures.
i am not so sure if the E61 is capable of doing it, but now i can set the notification light to blink everytime i get an SMS, an email, and even a missed call. as far as software is concerned, this new set offers more and better apps. worldmate, widsets and f-secure are some of the most useful aside from the 3rd party apps we learned to love in the E61 such as GMail, Salling Clicker, WiPresenter, Podcasting, Screenshot, etc.
i had no problems with transferring the data from my previous phone. we still have the two options -- via the transfer feature built into the phone or via iSync. the Mac easily detected and added the E61i and synchronization of data was very easy and fast.
i love this phone. the additional features which i discovered just now, like the ability of having your SMS messages read to you, the teams-conferencing capability, the colorful themes, are just icing on the cake. as expected, the E61i is an excellent business phone. for the PC user, it is now even equipped with Mail for Exchange version 1.3 which means total control over your PC's outlook app.
so, if you haven't yet, visit your favorite nokia reseller now and grab one. highly recommended!
