I have an 5yo half dome iMac that I put to sleep overnight. If I am leaving for longer, I shut it down. All this I do because of the regularity of blackouts. I have a UPS system but that will not last long enough if the power is out for hours, a possibility eventhough most blackouts last 30 minutes to an hour. (Makes me wonder, of course, why we have blackouts at all. What did they screw up that is so easy to fix? Clearly it is not weather related; no power lines went down.)
