SkyBroadband Internet Experience
Hello folks,
Need to know who among our members are using this, specially their 6Mbps-12Mbps plans. Need your help.
Do you get a valid IP address? Do you get your subscribed bandwidth most of the time? How reliable is it? How about their customer service?
Thanks.

I am using skybroadband 1.5 mbps.
Reliability has been acceptable. I have the impression that when Bayantel DSL was new and before they went down the toilet, I rarely experienced an outage.
Outages happens more frequently with Sky but still is acceptable. There have been a few instances when I had no internet for a few hours. And once when Sky had a technical problem in my area, I had problems for a week or so. Maybe once a week, I lose internet for a few minutes.
Speedtest to a UK or US server shows that most of the time, I get around 1 mbps. Customer service can be moronic but you can talk to a CSR within a reasonable mount of time quite often. Never admit to using a wifi router. Always tell the CSRs you have a direct connection. The concept that you can ping the modem and the wifi router does not indicate to them that problem lies beyond my house.
Overall, I am much happier with Sky than with Bayantel.

In defense for Bayantel, ( I am a subscriber), the longest outage I had was during Ondoy. 2 days. But the rest of the time, almost 24/7. However lately their hotline, went down to drain in terms of service.
As for sky, according to some of whom I asked about it, the trial period is great, but once subscribed, it is not that fast as stated.

Just checked and SkyBroadband does not give you a valid IP address. All access are via their proxies. Not good for me.

Bayantel gave us a headache. Our access had slowed down to a crawl. WE could barely surf. We took advantage of Sky's offer and it was much better.
As always, YMMV. In our area, Sky seems to be better than bayantel.

Is it just me or has skycable broadband slowed down? I called them up but there are no reported "problems" in their network. Is anybody else having problems?
Thanks

Yes, it is UBERSLOW. Calling them up practically everyday. According to them, there is a problem in our area, which they should resolve today. It is still slow. Hay.

Skycable service has improved a little bit. I used to get around 1mbps using speedtest.net. Now it is more like 600kbps.
Funny thing is on pingtest.net, I can only test using the skybroadband server. If I choose any other server, I get the message, "Packet loss test error. Couldn't connect to the server. A firewall could be blocking the connection or the server might be having some issues. Please try again later."
Never had that problem before.

Ugh..spoke too soon. Service has deteriorated again. I'm getting d/l speeds of about 150 kbps. Maybe it is time to start looking at the alternatives.
